The girl from Guatemala arrived with her father in a group of 163 migrants at the U.S. border in New Mexico. She reportedly began having seizures after she was detained and had a temperature of more than 105 degrees. Officials said she had “not eaten or consumed water for several days.” She died about 24 hours after she was taken, by helicopter, to a hospital in El Paso where she died of dehydration and shock. The Washington Post reported it wasn’t clear if the girl was given food, water, or medical treatment before she fell ill." -Daily Beast
Kirstjen Nielsen, channeling her best steely Nurse Ratchett on Fox News, explained it was the fault of a migrant family that their 7 year old died after being detained in El Paso. What's next, putting coal in their stockings?
Enduring the death of a child is emotionally catastrophic. Suffering this loss while attempting to flee for one's life is unimaginable. My condolences to the heartbroken family who came to this country seeking compassion and a chance at freedom. May your child rest in peace.
As for Ms. Nielsen, I hope you never have to bury one of your children while having people spit on your face.
