Revised Version of I Shall Not Despair

Originally published in December 2020:

Fatigued by the constitutional rape
Of neo-fascist red policy tape.
Tyranny unchecked escalates fear,
No, I shall not succumb to despair.

Chicanery and corruption abound,
Greed and sophistry unwound,
Explanations given with duplicitous fanfare,
Still, I will not be bamboozled into despair.

From the powerful white old men in justice,
To political liars saying trust us,
Spreading their deceit while reciting the Lord's Prayer,
Nay, I won't be proselytized into despair.

Muzzling sexual exploitation,
With a muddled explanation,
Protecting abusers by charging a fare.
Demands justice so I won't eat despair.

My body is not their lawful vessel,
For their conservative legislative wrestle.
Denying bodily freedom with media flair,
Will have me marching instead of despair.

The stench of Trumpism has me seething,
Longing for the sanity I used to believe in.
Murdering democracy for profit laid bare.
Leads me to protest to fend off despair.

Protecting a dictator's orange lying ways,
Absolving traitors because you're afraid,
Malfeasance flourishes but I bid you beware
My power to overcome won't let me despair!
